Mr Umanath Kotyan, President

Mr Umanath Kotyan of Mangalore has been elected new president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy. Mr Kotyan has served in the fields of Tulu drama, cinema and culture. He has acted in over 500 stage performances and carved a place in the hearts of drama lovers. Coming from Sangh Parivar Mr Kotyan is an active member of BJP and is presently working also as district vice-president of the party. His services have also been rendered in renovation committees of temples and village deities. He has also acted in Tulu and Kannada cinemas. Having a keen interest in preserving and promoting Tulu language, literature,art and culture, Mr Kotyan has the special leadership qualities of taking the team togather in achieving the aims and objectives of the Academy.

Jagannatha Shetty, Bala

Hailing from Bala near Surathkal of Mangalore Taluk Mr Jagannatha Shetty has 25 years of experience in journalism. He entered journalism through the Mungaru Kannada daily of late Vaddarse Raghurama Shetty. Then he served in Hosa Sanje, Karavali Mithra. and Karavali Marutha newspapers. He is working in the Jaya Kirana daily since some years. presently he is the news editor of the paper. He was instrumental in setting aside separate coloumn for Tulu in Hosa Sanje and Jaya Kirana newspapers.

Prof Tukarama Poojary

Prof Tukarama Poojary who obtained his MA PhD degrees in archaelogy and science of setting up and preservation of museums, is the head of the History Department at the Venkatramana College at Bantwal. He established the Rani Abbakka Tulu Adhyana Kendra and Museum depicting displaying Tulu life, Tuluva history, folklore and numismatics collection singlehandedly and showed a path for young researchers from the nation and abroad. Hwe has been striving to create a love and pride among Tuluvas in their language and culture and Tulu life in general by taking part in literary and cultural conferences and workshops all over the region.

Mr Tukarama Poojary has presented scholarly essays in national and international platforms. He is involved in several organisations and is the autrhor of several literary works. Mr Poojary is the recipient of many awards and honours including Yuva Sadhaka, Tulushree,Odiyoorda

Tulu Aisiro, Skandashree DK Distrcit Rajyotsava and Udaya TV’s Ideal Couple awards. His articles have appeared in pupular Kannada and English newspapers and interviews have been beemed in visual media.

Dr S Padmanabha Bhat , Yekkar

Dr Bhat is MA PhD degree holder from Mangalore University. He has guided many for doctoral and M Phil degrees. Mr Bhat has presented papers in many state and national level seminars . His articles in Kannada, Tulu and english languages have been published. He has to his credit 12 works on political science. His books have been made text for PUC and to degree classes of Mangalore University. Mr Bhat is a member of the political science department of Mangalore University and of the Board of Studies of the autonomous Sri Manjunatheshwara College, Ujire. He served as joint editor of Tulu folklore work Rashi. He is also a drama artiste of Mangalore Akashavani. Presently he is serving as assistant lecturer at Saint Mary College, Shirva.

Kadri Navaneetha Shetty

Kadri Navaneetha Shetty of Kadri Kamabalaguthuis the chief of circulation section of Times of India, Mangalore since last 23 years. He is also the chief of Circulation of Vijaya Karnataka for five districts . Navaneetha Shetty served Kodialbail Lions Club vice-president and President and won laurels . He was also the regional president of Lions International and won international honour.

An MBA of Mangalore University Navaneetha Shetty is an amateur Yakshagana artiste and author of yakshagana Prasangas and a director . His creation “Kurukshethrakkondu Ayoga” and its stage performance recived acclaim from both the audience and critics. Kadri Navaneetha Shetty has 17 dramas to his credit and the awards he bagged include DK District Rajyotsava Award, Tulu Sahitya Academy book award, Saamskrithika Tulu Ratna Prashasti and Dharmasthala Rathnaverma Heggade Prashasti.

Yadav V Karkera

He is an English lecturer at Government PU College, Padububidri. His hobby is to write stories, poems and articles in Tulu and Kannada languages. His Kannada work Mahavanithe has won an award. His book Rani Abbakka Devi has been published under Madapperavandi Tuluver series. He has founded a artistes troupe for folk dance performance. Active in Tulu organisations. He has also been appointed member of the Highschool Tulu Textbook Committee.

B V Suryanarayana

Mr Suryanarayana of Kedambady in Puttur is an English lrecturer at Government PU College Puttur. By Establishing Tulu Sangha he is inspiring youth to develop love and respect for Tulu language and culture. As a Jaycee trainer he has conducted state and national level training programmes for youth. As a commentator in cable TV at Puttur he has to his credit several programmes like Rasaprasne, Hallo Doctor, interviews etc. He shares his 23 years of experience in the field of education through newspapers, TV, school rooms and public platforms.

Manjula Shetty

Manjula Shetty is serving as a lecturer at Government Women’s DEd College, Balmatta, Mangalore. She has obtained her MA, MEd and MPhill degrees from Mangalore University. Her stories, poems and talks have been beamed from Tulu section and women’s section programmes of Mangalore Akashavani. She has presented papers in district and state level events. Manjula Shetty has compered important events including Vishwa Tulu Sammelana, All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana and other national and state, district level events. She also served as judge at music, dance and floklore competetions. She has worked as trainer of many events. Manjula Shetty’s published works are Draupadiya Swagatha poems collection and Kalgigada Karne Karnad Sadashivarayer. She has won district level talented teacher award and state level Jnana Saraswathi award.

Ramesh Kalmadi

Ramesh Kalmadi is a wellknown school teacher in Karkala. He is intersted in Tulu folk dance forms. He has established Tulu folklore dance troupe and gave performances in many places and won laurels. Mr Kalmadi is a resource person of the education department. He has endeared himself to students community by his highly innovative teaching methods and novel experiments he made to make teaching more attractive and positive.

Durgakumar Nayarkere

Mr Nayarkere is a journalist by profession. He keeps himself active in organisations, research literature and other ventures and presently he is reporter in Kannada Prabha daily and is the director of “Suddi Media Creations and Training Centre”. He has keen interest in Tulu literature, culture and folklore. He has authored a research essay “Tulunadina Purathana Tharavadu Manegalu”.

He has also conducted workshops on Tulu folklore and has many articles to his credit. Mr Nayarkere has directed private TV documentaries and has acted as master of ceremony in several events and presented papers in seminars. He has given talks numbering over 100 in Udupi, Mangalore and Kasaragod districts on journalism. He has recieved taluk, district and state level laurels and awards. State level journalism camp and district level workshops were held under his supervision.

Dr M P Srinatha Rao

Dr Srinatha Rao has hailed from a farmers family of Kokkada in Dakshina Kannada and has recieved his MA, MPhill and PhD degrees in Kannada. He is a lecturer in SDM College, Ujire and has participated in several state and national level seminars and workshops. He has been a functionary of NSS, Jaycees, DK Distreict Sahitya Parishat and has served the cause of literature, culture and social service. He was a co-ordinator of the Vishwa Tulu Sammelana held at Ujire in the year 2009 and he was in charge of sale and exhibition of Tulu books, Tuluvara darshana and compilation of photographs at the mega event. During 2006 he was honoured with Shikshaka Ratna award of Basava Kendra, Murughamath.

Damodara B Bangera

Mr Damodara B Bagera who finished his highschool education in Mangalore developed interest in dramas while studying in Jaihind College in Mumbai. Even during his college days he used to bag prizes in drama writing and drama competitions. After joining the Reserve Bank of India Mr Bangera formed a drama troupe there too and participated in inter-bank drama contests. He has acted in Tulu, Kannada, Hindi and Marathi dramas. He has served in the fields of stage design and light arrangement related to dramas. Mr Bangera has directed many popular dramas including Karent Pondu, Alegini Shanivara, Mukunde Thikonde, Yill Budaye, Kas Enchand.. etc Mr Bangera also directed cinemas “Badkonji Kabithe” and “Nirel”. He has also directed the popular Tulu serial “Dharma Ithi Mann”. He has the credit of introducing many new artistes to Tulu stage though TV serials and dramas.

Karnoor Mohan Rai

He is the son of veteran Yakshagana artiste and organiser Karnoor Koragappa Rai. Hailing from Mangalore Mr Mohan Rai is a hotel industrialist in Mumbai and since last twenty years has been performing dramas in India and abroad. He has to his credit prresenting over 1000 drama performances in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarath, Dehli, and in gulf nations like Dubai, Maskat, Behrain, Quatar and Kuwait. He is engaged in Tulu drama, Yakshagana, TV programmes and Tulu literary activities in Mumbai. He has been serving as a functionay of several bodies inluding Kannadiga Kalavidara Parishat, Maharashtra, Tulunada Samaja, Mumbai, Mira Bhayander Samsthe, Geethambika Yakshagana Mandali Mumbai, Srikrishna Vittala Prathishtana Mumbai and thereby contributing to the cause of art, literature and culture. Mr Rai is the convenor for Mumbai and foreign countries for the Chaparka Kalavider, Kudla (Mangalore)
